Tunnel of Leaves

Whenever I walk the loop that circles the pond and make the turn at the far end, I look down the dam toward the house and see this scene.  It looks like a tunnel, with light shining through.  When I had the pond built during the 1980’s, all this area was bare of growth.
Over the years bushes and trees have grown on both edges of the dam, slowly getting taller and thicker.  It always surprises me how quickly and quietly Nature reclaims her territory when left alone.  The only reason there is now this “tunnel,” is because I whack or mow the weeds on top of the dam every year.

Take a look at my photo-realistic paintings:  davidmarchant2.ca
