On October 1st I blogged about a desiccated mouse, then on October 5th, I wrote a blog about a coincidence. Strangely, today’s blog is about both of those things.
A week ago when I drove my truck to town, I noticed that a lot of condensation was forming on the inside of my windshield. The dial was turned to “Defrost”, but the windshield didn’t clear. Several times I had to wipe the inside of the windshield with my hand so I could see. It was when I turned the fan dial to the “DEFROST” that I realized I had a problem: Nothing happened. The fan, which I can normally hear, was silent.
I person doesn’t want to go into winter with a vehicle that will not defrost the windshield, so I took my truck into Zach at the garage, to see if he could solve the problem. After checking it out, he said that I needed a new fan for the truck’s defroster/heater. Yesterday, I took the truck back to the garage to have a new fan installed.
When I was paying the bill, May said she had something to show me. “Great,” I joked, “That sounds like fun.” May then told me it wasn’t really a good thing. She walked me back into the garage and pointed out the old fan that had been removed from my truck.
What I saw was a dead, desiccated, mouse corpse laying in the fan. The crazy mouse had evidently crawled up into the air intake of the car to the fan, and then, couldn’t get back out. Evidently, it’s body had been decomposing in the fan for a while.
Thinking back, I remembered that when the truck was parked beside the lanai, Kona would spend a lot of time sniffing and hanging around the front of the truck. I guess that she probably picked up the scent of the poor decaying mouse.
The new fan Zach installed works fine. I hope that from now on, the local mice will find safer places to explore.
