Back In The Saddle Again--Again

I have always been fascinated by coincidences.   Why do things I happen to stumble upon, suddenly make another appearance, out of the blue?  When that happens, it always seems so Cosmic, like it has some kind of importance, although I know it doesn’t

For about twenty years I produced a calendar.  On it I used my cartoons and trivia.  Over the years I had put together a huge database of trivia that had happened on certain dates, which I put onto the calendar.  I always began working on my calendars this time of year.  Here is a coincidence that I blogged about, in the fall of 2012 when I was designing the 2013 calendar:

Over the last few days, I have been putting in a lot of hours, trying to get my 2013 Marchant Calendar done.  The photo above is a shot of what the April page of that calendar looks like.  It was  time consuming to find all the bits of trivia to feature on the calendar.

Yesterday, I needed to find some trivia I could use for April 18th.  I looked through my database of events and found several possibilities.

On April 18th:  Paul Revere did his midnight ride (1775), The San Francisco Earthquake hit (1906), Gene Autry recorded “Back in the Saddle Again” (1935), Albert Einstein died (1955), and the London Bridge was bought and moved to Arizona (1968).

I was tempted to use ‘Back in the Saddle Again’, but then I thought, how many people know that song, and when was the last time I had even heard it.  As you can see, in the end, I went with the San Francisco earthquake.

Then last night, I was invited to Milne’s for supper.  I was driving in the truck down Hinkelman Road listening to CBC radio as I went.  They were interviewing a woman about a saddle she had for sale.  When the interview was over, guess what they played on the radio.  That’s right, Gene Autry singing, “Back in the Saddle, Again”.  What a coincidence.  I have half a mind to go back and change April 18th on the calendar.
