Back in 2019 BC passed legislation to stop the twice-a-year time change. We were going to stay on Daylight Savings Time all year long. Scientists tell us it would be better to stay on Regular Time all year long, because our bodies need that blast of sunshine early in the day, to properly set our circadian rhythm, but I guess it doesn’t matter because BC has been continuing to do the time changes.
The reason was, BC’s legislation depended upon the states of Washington, Oregon, and California (who also waned to stay year long on Daylight Savings Time), doing likewise. Those states never did, because it required US Federal Legislation to do it, and that never happened.
Now that Canadians are seeing that the US has become so antagonistic and it cannot be depended upon for anything, BC is considering just permanently going on Daylight Savings Time yearlong on its own, rather than staying in sync with the US.
The sudden change to Daylight Savings Time causes a lot of accidents, due to the disruption of the body’s circadian, at least for the few days following the change. Fortunately for us, now that we are retired and don’t have to drive to work, we are not effected very much. Our main problem is the confusion Kona and Lucifer (our dog and cat) feel because their mealtime changes. Time “jumping forward” isn’t a problem because they are always happy to eat anytime, but when we “fall backward” they hang around their bowls at their normal feeding time wondering where their food is, and worrying about it not being there.
Although it is a minor problem, the time change means I have to go around an change the time on all of the “old school” clocks in the house. Fortunately all of the computers and high tech gadgets make the change automatically.
