A Day of Memorable Meals

Some days just don’t work out well.

According to my diary, I had one of those days in November of 1994.  The day was memorable because of all of terrible meals that I had.

At breakfast after I had poured my dry cereal into the bowl, I went to the fridge for some milk to pour on it and discovered that there was only about 2 Tablespoons of milk left in the carton.  I used the 2 Tablespoons of milk but it did very little to moisten the dry flakes in my bowl.  The scanty amount of milk just didn’t do the job of adding liquid to the flaky dry cereal.  My breakfast was like eating small pieces of flavored cardboard.  Fortunately I had a glass of orange juice to help me get each spoonful down.

After breakfast I started to make myself a sandwich to take to work.   I used the last two pieces of bread in the plastic bag for the sandwich.  The only suitable thing I could find the refrigerator to put in the middle of my sandwich was a lone hard-boiled egg which I sliced into discs.  Fortunately there was still one last small glob of mayonnaise left in the jar, which I smeared on the top slice of bread to moisten the sandwich.

After my unsatisfying breakfast, I eagerly looked forward to lunch and that egg sandwich.  Sadly, in that first bite into my meager sandwich, I discovered that those last two slices of bread I had used, were moldy.

My gourmet food trend continued that evening at supper when I ate some leftover spaghetti sauce mixed over some dried-out left-over spinach pasta.  It, like the other two previous meals of the day, was not a meal I ever wish to repeat.

It seemed strange that all of one day’s meals could be so consistently awful.
