Last June, a handful of local artists were commissioned to paint images of important McBride events or locales, that were to be used for banners that would be hung on the lamp posts along Main Street. I was commissioned to paint an image of the McBride Horse Rescue that took place in December of 2008.
Although the subject was much different from what I generally paint, I have always been proud of the fact that some compassionate local people got together and worked for days in extremely cold and hostile conditions, to rescue two starving horses that had been abandoned months earlier in the a mountain alpine. When winter arrived, they were skin and bones and barely alive, when they were discovered.
The painting is on a 24” x 48” canvas, painted with acrylics. It took me 188 hours to paint. I will blog tomorrow about the incredible horse rescue in McBride that made international news.
